Titans to exercise Marcus Mariota's fifth-year option for 2019

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans had until May 3 to make a decision on whether to exercise the fifth-year option for Marcus Mariota.

There was little doubt they would do it, and they did not wait for the deadline.

Robinson said on The Midday 180 on Wednesday that the Titans will exercise the option, which tacks the 2019 season to Mariota’s initial deal.

“We’re excited to have him here as our quarterback and hopefully he will be here for a long time,” Robinson said.

Mariota is now in line to make $20.922 million in 2019.

Players drafted in the top 10 have a team option for a fifth-season that needs to be exercised in the spring of the fourth season. Its value is the average of the 10-highest salaries at the position.

His rookie four-year deal was worth $24 million with a $15.87 million signing bonus.

In 2018 he will make a $705,000 base salary and $3.031 million in the form of a roster bonus.
