Christian McCaffrey's new deal will complicate things for Derrick Henry

Christian McCaffrey's new deal will complicate things for Derrick Henry

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – We don’t know how it’s structured yet, but Christian McCaffrey’s reported new deal with the Carolina Panthers isn’t going to make the possibility of a long-term deal between the Titans and Derrick Henry any easier.

Henry recently signed his franchise tag worth $10.278 million for 2020, which lined him up behind only Ezekiel Elliott ($15 million), Le’Veon Bell ($13.125 million) and David Johnson ($13 million) in terms of yearly average, though they all got up-front bonuses and multiple years.

Now McCaffrey will be the NFL’s highest-paid back, in line for a $16 million average.

Titans mail: Scheme enhancements, numbers on the edge, nickel options

Titans mail: Scheme enhancements, numbers on the edge, nickel options

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Here we are at the weekend again. I hope you've got big plans at the homestead for Easter weekend.

I appreciate the quality mail and did the best I could to answer as much as I could.

TitansFansJaxI like the Adam Humphries idea there. I’d put that on the list for sure. He was limited too much early on as he was staying in to help Dennis Kelly while he was at left tackle filling in for the suspended Taylor Lewan – less than ideal all along. Then he missed four games at the end of the regular season with an ankle injury.

They never really got him in sync.

In camp last year I thought the short passing game had a chance to be unstoppable with Humphries and Delanie Walker at the heart of it, but that did not come to fruition.

The Titans are all the way in on Jadeveon Clowney

The Titans are all the way in on Jadeveon Clowney

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Titans definitely want in on Jadeveon Clowney who they see as a disruptive piece to their front who can help throw them over the top in 2020, a source tells me.

The two obstacles are exactly as has been speculated: his health and his price tag.Jadeveon Clowney, Seattle Seahawks

Recent reports suggest the team that traded for him from Houston last year, Seattle, may have faded as his potential home for 2020 – though that could be posturing. The Jets and Browns have been mentioned as other suitors. [Unlocked]

Shorter offseason will reduce rookie expectations for Titans, across NFL

Shorter offseason will reduce rookie expectations for Titans, across NFL

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Rookie camp, OTAs, minicamp, training camp and preseason games and more important for rookies than for anyone.RyanOakland

Much of that is likely to be erased and other elements condensed due to the coronavirus pandemic. This leads me to expect that whatever brand of 2020 NFL season we see – if we see one at all – will have as little overall impact rookie impact as any season in memory.

I texted with a scout Tuesday about the idea, and specifically about the rookie learning curve at the positions where the Titans seem destined to be counting on rookies.

My NFL All-Decade ballot

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Some successful players' careers don't neatly break down into a decade, with a good part coming in one and a good part coming in the next.

As far as NFL All-Decade Teams go for them, they made not fit.

But plenty do, with enough of their great body of work fitting. Monday the All-Decade Team for the 2010s was announced. It was voted on by the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee.

Here it is:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Greetings all, from my homes to what I imagine is yours.

Here's this week's pod which you should not have missed, with my guest Buck Reising.

Onto the best questions you've thrown my way.

There are some. But it’s dangerous. You have to see an absolute certainty in a guy to do it. And it’s not really how the Titans

Jeffery Simmons is working with Titans' director of medicine and strength coach

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Jeffery Simmons played in nine of 10 regular-season games after coming off the Titans' non-football injury list in his rookie season and was also part of their three playoff games.

But the ACL tear he suffered in Feb. of 2019 as he prepared for the combine left him with enough of an issue after his rookie year that he qualifies as a rehabilitation player for Tennessee right now.SimmonsChargers

Mike Vrabel said in a Wednesday media conference call that Simmons is working with the team's director of sports medicine Todd Torischelli and strength coach Frank Piraino. [Unlocked]
