New Titans GM Ran Carthon: 'Wherever I can add value to Mike Vrabel, I'm here for it'

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The theme wound itself through a press conference that lasted over 50 minutes and it will be a key to whether a Ran Carthon-Mike Vrabel partnership succeeds for the Titans.

The power dynamic between the new GM and the veteran coach is going to be all about collaboration, but Carthon views a chief element of his duties as service to Vrabel.

“I’ve been with multiple organizations and I’ve seen it done different ways, but the best way I’ve seen it done is when the coach and the GM are in lockstep,” said Carthon, who wore a gray suit, light blue tie and Nikes that matched. “It’s my job, it’s our job as scouts to execute Mike and his coaching staff’s vision. I’m not calling plays on Sunday, I’m not designing plays throughout the week. And so it’s our job to bring the right players in here to execute his vision. …

The best Titans game to take to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

FlameballGlassTallLogoNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans will return to London in 2023, this time as a host of a regular season game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In the NFL’s third 17-game season, Tennessee is slated for nine home games. One will be exported.

It won’t be the Jaguars, as they play a home game in London annually. The Seahawks played in Germany in 2022 and the Falcons were in London in 2021.

PK TV: We gathered to talk about new Titans GM Ran Carthon, more

PK011823NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- It's been a good while since we've had a chance to chat, and now the Titans have a new general manager in Ran Carthon.

So we got together and discussed the former San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel and the hopes the Titans have with him now in their GM chair.

There are so many issues to solve, but I think there is a course where the franchise can be a competitive team next year while remaining competitive, though it could be healthier in the long run for them to do a more thorough rebuild now.

And while this week's podcast was recorded before Carthon was hired, there is still a lot of relevant stuff in there about Mike Vrabel's moves with Todd Downing, Keith Carter and Anthony Midget, how he needs to approach the open offensive coordinator job and much more.

You'll find links to listen to it here, and you can now watch on a new, public YouTube

Mike Herndon: The Titans' quarterback options moving forward

TENNRoofingSTRIPsmallBy MIKE HERNDON, columnist

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- With Ran Carthon officially on board as the Titans' next general manager, let’s dive into arguably the biggest question that he will need to answer in their first offseason in Tennessee… who will play quarterback?

The Titans have two quarterbacks under contract for the 2023 season. Veteran starter Ryan Tannehill is heading into the final year of his four-year, $118 million deal that he signed in 2020. His base salary is non-guaranteed, however, and Tennessee could save $17.8 million by either trading him or cutting him.

The other quarterback currently under contract, of course, is Malik Willis. He just wrapped up a disappointing rookie campaign that saw him get benched for career backup Joshua Dobbs during the final two weeks.

New Titans GM Ran Carthon has reputation as a collaborator

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Multiple outlets have reported and I’ve confirmed that Ran Carthon will be the Titans new general manager.

RanCarthonCarthon has a reputation as being an excellent collaborator, a quality that Amy Adams Strunk surely likes in the replacement she chose for Jon Robinson.

I spoke with three people who know Carthon and all three pointed to his ability to head up teamwork as a strong suit.

Carthon was the Rams' director of pro personnel from 2012-2016, when Jeff Fisher was the team’s coach.

“He’s got communication skills that are off the charts and he loves evaluating,” Fisher said. “In this day and age that’s become a lost art, in my opinion. He’s a really good evaluator. Very, very thorough.

"I can hear him right now, going through an evaluation, Character means a lot to him. He’s going to make everybody in that building really excited about this hire.”

Titans' Rashad Weaver court case pushed back again

Twenty-one months after initially facing a simple assault charge in Pittsburgh, Titans outside linebacker Rashad Weaver has been pushed back again.

Scheduled for a jury trial this morning in Judge Anthony M. Mariani Court of Common Pleas in Allegheny County, Weaver is now scheduled for a status hearing on April 12 and a jury trial on May 16.

A status hearing is typically a pretrial event to make sure all motions are handled and discovery has been exchanged.

Simple assault is a second-degree misdemeanor. If Weaver is found guilty the maximum sentence is not more than two years but the likely scenario is probation.

The charge stems from an April 18, 2021 incident outside the Foxtail bar in Pittsburgh during which the alleged victim, Demetria Navjelis, told police Weaver “grabbed her by the throat and pushed her to the ground, where she ultimately hit her head.”

The Paul Kuharsky Podcast joins 440 Sports

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Paul Kuharsky Podcast has a new platform.

PKpodPrimaryI've been looking for the best way to expand the pod, extend its reach and connect with potential sponsors. Local is the route and I have no doubt that joining Braden Gall and becoming part of the 440 Sports network will achieve those goals.

I've feuded with Gall in the past, when he wouldn't say my name on the radio or obsessed about my shirt in my headshots. But he's the right guy to help PK.com in this department.

This site has been a big success in creating a fantastic membership of Titans fans who want a gimmick-free, connected and honest assessment of what's happening on all levels of the team.

Now with upgraded production and a video element, the podcast will offer a bigger taste of that to everyone.

For members, it'll be an expanded, crisper and more enjoyable version of what we've been doing. For non-members, I hope you'll accept the invitation to step through that door and come to the site for much more.
