NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans want to avenge a playoff loss to the Bengals last season and Cincinnati is looking to continue its winning ways to get atop the AFC North.

The Titans still haven’t beaten a team that currently has a winning record. Sunday they get that chance.

The Titans are comfortable at the top of the AFC South, but they must start to win games that matter.

The Bengals are a playoff-caliber team with playoff-caliber offensive skill players.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In a building with walls filled with keywords and team mantras, each time the Titans leave team headquarters they get one final message in frosted glass on the exit doors.

The part of football that is a secret club is an ingredient that can help forge bonds and build cultures that can help create successful teams.

In Nashville, it’s sixty-nine players, 27 coaches a training and equipment staff. And often, no one else.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Ten games into the 2022 season, Treylon Burks finally looked like the receiver that Jon Robinson certainly hoped he would be when he made the controversial decision to trade away A.J. Brown and select Burks with the 18^th overall pick of the draft. 

His seven-catch, 111-yard showing was bookended by two explosive plays, one for 43 yards and one for 51, and it’s those explosive plays in the passing game that could change the outlook for this Titans team in 2022.

Tennessee had entered Green Bay with just 21 pass plays resulting in gains of at least 20 yards on the season, fourth fewest in the NFL over the first 10 weeks of the season. However, they netted five such plays in Green Bay, with two coming through their highly drafted rookie.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Treylon Burks gave the Titans an explosive dynamic they’ve lacked in their Thursday night win at Green Bay, one they’ll need more of to be a more well-rounded offense and a better contender in the playoffs.

It makes perfect sense that they’d move forward intending to feature him more.

But it’s made perfect sense in the past for the Titans to feature offensive players more coming off games where they showed they could make a bigger contribution.

And because of a different matchup, a player regression or the staff’s stubbornness with regard to not going into a game set on getting the ball to a particular guy, we’ve seen it not happen.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Titans’ big passing game output in Green Bay was a terrific addition to the formula that already had them firmly established as the AFC South front-runner and a highly likely first-round playoff host.

It immediately begged the question, was it the start of something new or a one-game aberration against the Packers, who sold out to slow Derrick Henry and paid the price over the top with the Titans offering Ryan Tannehill strong protection, the quarterback delivering precise passes and his targets, finally, making consistent plays for him.

I’ll need to see that more than once to believe the Titans can present a truly balanced attack with regularity. Mike Herndon wrote Tannehill and the passing offense only need “to do enough not to drag them down.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans may have had their best all-around performance of the season at Lambeau Field, with a big passing day paired with physical coverage producing a 10-point win and boosting them to 7-3 ahead of a mini-bye.

They'll now rest and recover having put some things on film that will make future opponents think a bit more about how to plan for them.

But will anyone else sell out quite the way the Packers did to slow Derrick Henry? And can the Titans protect and pass as efficiently again?

The Packers team took on the personality of their quarterback and captain. Not interested. Not motivated. Not winners.
