NASHVILLE, Tenn.  -- As we plug back in on the podcast following four days of training camp, I look into Marcus Mariota's command, the blocking tight end role, Dion Lewis without Derrick Henry, Cameron Batson's chances, Rashaan Evans as a central piece of the defense and false accusations facing me and three boxes of donuts.

YAZOO PODCAST: Bernard Pollard on Marcus Mariota, locker-room sandpaper and the Titans' DBs

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  -- When he saw some tweets about Marcus Mariota's minicamp work last week, former Titans' safety Bernard Pollard chimed in. So I quickly reached out to one of the more outspoken members in locker-room history to see if he'd chat with me about the quarterback and more.

And here we are.

Beyond Marcus Mariota and Ryan Tannehill, we covered the secondary with his player-by-player review of the top five, delved into Dean Pees who he played for in Baltimore, looked into the importance of chemistry and the idea of sandpaper in the locker room which I've been pushing (and which he was). PodcastYazooArtSquare

We also talked about why the Titans are always a run-first and defensive team, how reviewable pass interference will impact DBs, the idea of moving Adoree Jackson inside, the state route-running and Pollard's infamous hit on Tom Brady that really triggered the increase in quarterback protection.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- As transformers go, Rodger Saffold needs to be a top one for the Titans.

The new left guard is expected to combine with Taylor Lewan to make for a major strength for Tennessee, paving the way for Derrick Henry and Derrick Lewis and making sure Marcus Mariota doesn't have issues from his blindside.

Saffold was kind enough to spend 30 minutes chatting with me about the increased value of internal pressure in today's NFL, and the increased value in stopping it. We also talked about his ownership of esports team Rise Nation, growing up on the same street as the girl he'd grow up to marry and the pain that results for a man his size -- and his seatmates -- when he gets stuck in a middle seat on a Los Angeles to Tampa flight.PodcastYazooArtSquare

YAZOO PODCAST: Will Compton on 'Bussin' with the Boys,' Dean Pees' schemes and how to play special teams

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  -- "Bussin' With the Boys" is all the rage in the Titans' podcasting sphere and perhaps beyond after a debut episode featuring Delanie Walker as the guest.

So it was a good time for our podcast to catch up with Will Compton, the linebacker/co-host of the new show.

Often in a wolf shirt, Compton was a great resource for me in the locker room last season. He remains unsigned and isn't sure what awaits him.PodcastYazooArtSquare

We discussed the podcast and some potential landmines as well as the plans for the guys to stock up a library of episodes to last through the season; How Mike Vrabel and Dean Pees can scheme a pass rush and find ways to get Rashaan Evans, Jayon Brown and Wesley Woodyard all on the field at the same time; How a guy like Tajae Sharpe might add special teams to his repertoire; And this piece from last season: Blocked? Muted? The Titans' social media reactions aren't as telling as I might have believed.

YAZOO PODCAST: Nate Washington on why some Titans' WRs have not developed, hand-strength work and Corey Davis

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  -- Nate Washington had an eye on Twitter last week when Steve Watterson was a guest on The Midday 180, and he tweeted about how key the former Titans' strength and conditioning coach eas to his successful six years in Tennessee.

It prompted me to reach out to Washington to catch up and invite him on the podcast, and I am sure glad I did, because our conversation is packed with some excellent insight from him.

PodcastYazooArtSquare

Most compelling was what he said about the Titans continual lack of development of receivers, but you also won't want to miss the story of his one-on-one matchup with Logan Ryan in Patriots camp in 2016, his detailing of the work he did with Watterson to strengthen his hands, what he thinks about a run-first offense in 2019, his thoughts on Marcus Mariota and on Arthur Smith and his detailed breakdowns of the Titans current wide receivers.

YAZOO PODCAST: Evan Silva joins me for draft review, early Titans' fantasy feelings

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  -- One of the most popular editions of the podcast was a guest appearance by Evan Silva, who was kind enough to return this week.

The Rotoworld fantasy guru also has a great eye for the draft, so we rolled through the Titans; draft before sorting through an early take on the fantasy value of the Titans' top fantasy options, starting, of course, with Derrick Henry.

YAZOO PODCAST: Titans' specific fits from draft analyst Kyle Crabbs

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  -- We often don't spend enough time considering how to shape a conversation with a draft analyst.

For this week's edition of our podcast, I talked to Kyle Crabbs and asked if he could, ahead of time, ponder guys he thinks fit the Titans' needs and systems.

And so our chat centers on outside linebackers, defensive linemen, interior offensive linemen and receivers. He paints us pictures of a couple guys who could be there for the Titans at each of those spots at No. 19 in the first round, in the second/third rounds and in the fourth round and after.

PodcastYazooArtSquare

I think you will really enjoy it as he walks us through 16 different prospects. You should follow Crabbs on Twitter at @GrindingTheTape and read him with several other top draft analysts at The Draft Network.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A deep dive into the mail in a podcast sounded good to me this week. And since no middle manager had to justify the idea because we run an efficient and smart one-man operation here, it came quickly into existence.

(Yes, occasionally I still tap into some bitterness from my old life.)

This is sure to get you through a good workout or a drive and I am confident you'll come through it better off.

PodcastYazooArtSquare

Among the topics covered: The optimal time for the draft, a free agent I'd still sign, Dennis Kelly's future, Dion Lewis' reliance on Derrick Henry, right guard or center solutions, Arthur Smith's draft influence, how expanded replay will affect challenges, a real view of the Titans' fan base and information overload for draft decision-makers.

YAZOO PODCAST: Titans' views from Peter King, Chris Simms and Albert Breer

PHEONIX  -- The front of the Arizona Biltmore is very long, with the media area at one end, the conference center where the big meetings were held in the middle and the hotel at the other end, with the bar, restaurants and some nice outdoor space where people hung out during free time.

PodcastYazooArtSquare

I made that walk, like a lot of media, a number of times during the NFL owners' meetings, as it's where you maximize your chances to run into coaches, executives and media friends.

And a few times I came across colleagues in the national media who I respect and who were willing to share a few minutes.

While I am not always giant on national perspective on local events, I know you like hear it. So I gathered thoughts on what the Titans have done since the new league year started. This week's podcast features my chats with Peter King of NBC Sports, Chris Simms of Pro Football Talk and Albert Breer of Monday Morning Quarterback/ Sports Illustrated.
