Tennessee Titans’ general manager Mike Borgonzi now officially has a second draft class under his belt. After shocking the NFL world by taking Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate at fourth overall, Tennessee was supposed to have to wait until the 35th pick for its next selection.
However, near the end of Day One of the draft, Borgonzi showed the first of multiple signs of aggression during the draft by trading back up into the back-end of the first round. The Titans traded up from pick 35 with the Buffalo Bills – sending picks 35, 66 and 101 in exchange for picks 31, 69 and 165. After trading back up into the first round without losing a top-100 pick, Tennessee selected Auburn edge rusher Keldric Faulk with its newly acquired first-round pick.
Faulk received virtually no pre-draft coverage in relation to the Titans – largely because no one expected him to be available beyond the late teens/early 20s. However, as the end of the first neared and Faulk was still on the board, Borgonzi decided to trade up and land him.
