Kevin Dodd's failure to report likely the end for him with Titans

TicketsBar2NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Some of the Titans transactions at the opening of the first phase of camp are merely book-keeping moves.

Quarterbacks, rookies and players who finished the offseason program in June with injuries were due to report.

Kevin Dodd was one of them and didn’t show up. Meaning he was placed on a list we rarely see used: Reserve – Did Not Report.DoddJags

It probably means we’ve hit the end for the 33rd pick in the 2016 draft, a guy who dealt with two surgeries for a foot stress fracture as a rookie and never showed much fire or production. He was in line for a chance as a swing outside backer and base end but he was hardly a piece they were relying on.

I’d bet against him re-emerging and, frankly, it’s time for the Titans to move on.

John Robinson was asked about Dodd at a season ticket-holder event Monday morning.

"He didn't report yesterday, yesterday was his report date," he said. "He's not here. So once he gets here, we'll have a nice little discussion with him and see where he is at and what his commitment level is to the football team.

"I talked about believing in people. We want people that believe in and are committed to what we're going to be about and we'll see where that's at."

There are too many questions about the guy who failed to make the most of a fresh start by staying away for Phase 2 of the voluntary offseason, which included 10 practices. He came back for mandatory minicamp and got hurt again.PKUnleashedShirt b

I'm not big on distractions messing up a well-formed team. But the Mike Vrabel era is about to commence and Dodd questions shouldn't be top of the list for the Titans right now.

The Titans put Jack Conklin and Phillip Supernaw on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. They can be activated at any time. If they remain on the list when the season starts, they cannot play in the first six weeks of the season.

Conklin is coming back from a torn ACL suffered in the playoff loss at New England. Supernaw’s injury is a well-kept secret.

Michael Campanaro and Rashaan Evans were tagged as Non-Football Illness, which I’m going to read literally. They are sick.

Another player who finished the offseason hurt, Rishard Matthews, was excused from early reporting and is expected to join the team on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The full team reports on Wednesday.
