With the bleak despair of the NFL offseason finally relenting, the Robert Saleh-led Tennessee Titans debuted against his former team in San Francisco last week. Despite leaving with a 19-13 win, the overall mood coming out of the first game of the 2026 preseason was pretty blah.

The primary contributor to this sense of dread, even in the face of a win, is the lackluster performance of the heart of Tennessee’s roster in the Titans matchup against the 49ers. Second-year quarterback Cam Ward is integral to not only to the team’s success in 2026 but also to the franchise’s success for years to come. In the three series that Saleh allowed the starters to play in, Ward’s sophomore season premiere left plenty to be desired.

Over the course of his rookie season, Ward had the obvious rookie growing pains, but he also displayed plenty to give Titans fans faith in his future. The one glaring issue that has plagued his film, dating back to his Washington State days and continuing to plague him throughout his first NFL season, is his sporadic, scattershot accuracy.
