The Titans' winning drive, broken down play-by-play

The Titans' winning drive, broken down play-by-play

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans game-winning overtime drive was as good a drive as we've seen from the franchise in a regular season game in the building now known as Nissan Stadium.

A play-by-play look at how it all unfolded.

1-10 TEN 25: (6:19) M.Mariota scrambles right end pushed ob at TEN 32 for 7 yards (J.Hicks)

Corey Davis crossed behind Mariota to the left for some misdirection, while Dion Lewis headed to the right. Fletcher Cox got pressure pushing through Josh Kline and the quarterback decided to run, cutting inside the defender, considering a pass to Lewis out in front of him to the right sideline, but then running there himself.

With thrilling win over Eagles, Titans announce: ‘The boys are down to bang’

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Disbelieve at your own risk.

With a thrilling, 26-23 overtime marquee win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Titans sit at 3-1. They are, unquestionably, legit.

It would have ranked as an improbable start just given the schedule and new systems that came with a coaching change.

That is much more the case given the crazy scenarios that have greeted Mike Vrabel and his assistants in their first four games running the franchise.

Hero moment from Marcus Mariota, Corey Davis caps Titans' win over Eagles

Hero moment from Marcus Mariota, Corey Davis caps Titans' win over Eagles

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The two young players the Titans need most to shine on offense combined on a heroic last-second overtime 10-yard connection that lifted their team to a crazy 26-23 win over the Eagles. MariotaPressureEagles

It may have been the best regular season game ever hosted by what's now known as Nissan Stadium, but we'll dig more into that later.

With 17 seconds left, Marcus Mariota found Corey Davis for a 10-yard touchdown that set the building into a frenzy and created a mob scene in the Northeast corner of the stadium, where the entire team celebrated around Davis.

Lots more to come, but we start with my video report below.

Titans should keep some Wildcat, because it helps make Derrick Henry go

Titans should keep some Wildcat, because it helps make Derrick Henry go

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Derrick Henry is thoroughly unimpressed with his play so far.

“I’m being trapped, I’m not really satisfied," he said. “I’ve got to be more effective and have more explosive runs. I’ve got to help this offense. Averaging 3 yards a carry just isn’t good.”HenryWildcatTexans

Mike Vrabel and Matt LaFleur aren’t talking that way. Both pointed to this 15-yard gain against Jacksonville when I quizzed them on Henry’s performance through three games.

Scouting report: Kevin Byard best matchup for Zach Ertz, but it will create other risks

Blake Beddingfield was a Titans' scout for 19 years, through the 2017 draft. He was the team's director of college scouting for his final six years. He's brought to us by Party Fowl, where you should be eating hot chicken and drinking boozy slushes in The Gulch, the Boro or Donelson.

Time for Titans to move from duct tape to more conventional creativity

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Marcus Mariota shouldn’t be limited. Jack Conklin should be back.

Yes, the Titans are without Delanie Walker, but they’ve had two games to come to terms with his loss and he’s not coming back. No, Rishard Matthews isn’t really looped into the offense and was away Wednesday for personal reasons. Backup quarterback could be an issue. On defense. Kamalei Correa is expecting to return and Kendrick Lewis will probably be available.

MariotaTampaIntroStill, Sunday at Nissan Stadium against the Philadelphia Eagles, we should see the most complete version of the Titans we’ve seen yet. To contend with and beat the reigning Super Bowl champions, the home team will need that and more.

Why 'For the Boys' rings hollow to me after the locker room's reaction to Rishard Matthews leaving

Why 'For the Boys' rings hollow to me after the locker room's reaction to Rishard Matthews leaving

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The highest-profile guys in the Titans’ locker room said they are perfectly fine with Rishard Matthews making a personal decision, asking for his release and leaving the team.

This shocked me, that not one guy in a room with plenty of good leadership dared to say, “It’s disappointing that he chose to leave us at this time” or “We were all about the 53 guys on the roster and now it’s 52” or “While we hope he finds what he’s looking for, we don’t love being left.”MatthewsRams

None of that would have been hugely controversial.

Here’s a script: “He is not one of the boys. He’s not here. I think the transaction speaks for itself.”
