The Paul Kuharsky Podcast: Why The Titans Waited For 2024 Rebuild

The Paul Kuharsky PodcastNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Earlier this week I looked at the Titans' 2024 depth chart based on who they currently have under contract next year.

It's not pretty, and it will be awfully difficult to avoid calling it a rebuild.

Some of you read that and wondered, why wait?

That's where I start this week's road edition of the podcast.

The new episode awaits you on Apple, Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, iHeart and YouTube, which is below.

Other subjects I dive into:

The Paul Kuharsky Podcast: An Area Where Mike Vrabel Is Converting Me

The Paul Kuharsky PodcastNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- When the Titans are flat, we look for energy from players to get the team started.Β

But Mike Vrabel is not a big believer in the idea that energy produces plays.

"Energy is brought by making plays on the field," he said in 2019. "Finishing. Whether it be a block downfield, an extra effort run, a great catch. The people who make plays are the ones who bring energy. That’s who we count on.”

I've always thought he overly downplayed the amount of energy that could come from non-playmakers. But watching u13 baseball last weekend did a lot to convert me to Vrabel's thinking.

That's a piece of this week's podcast.

The new episode awaits you on Apple, Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, iHeart and YouTube, which is below.

Other subjects I dive into in an edition heavy on analytics:

Podcast: The Wrong Comparison for the Titans

The Paul Kuharsky PodcastNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Will Levis has been on display for three OTA practices and three minicamp practices and he benefitted from too many comparisons to Malik Willis, a quarterback project who was a bomb as a rookie.

It's super-early, but there still should have been at least some moments where we saw a guy who looked like a potential successor to Ryan Tannehill.

I didn't really see them.

That's where we start this week's podcast.

The new episode awaits you on Apple, Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, iHeart and YouTube, which is below.

Other subjects I dive into:

πŸ’₯ Ryan Tannehill's new kind of takeoff
πŸ’₯ Colton Dowell's hand technique
πŸ’₯ Stars on Mars
πŸ’₯ Kristian Fulton getting it is good, but it taking this long is bad

Podcast: The Titans' actual speed

The Paul Kuharsky PodcastNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- When the Titans talked about getting faster, the reasonable presumption was they'd add faster players, particularly at play-making spots.

Instead this week they were talking about running a more efficient offense that would allow their guys to maximize the speed they have.

What a letdown.

That's where I begin the new episode of the podcast, which awaits you on Apple, Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn and iHeart as well as YouTube, which is below.

Other subjects I dive into:

πŸ’₯ Past player peaks and what they mean to Tim Kelly

Podcast: The Calloused Titans

The Paul Kuharsky PodcastNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans are talking about how their offseason work is getting them calloused, and that sounds great.

But everything about the way they work has to be considered through the lens of injuries after two brutal years of losing too many players for too much time.

That's a big piece of this week's podcast.

The new episode awaits you on Apple, Spotify, Google Podcasts, TuneIn and YouTube, which is below.

The Paul Kuharsky Podcast: 'That's who it is' in the Titans' receiver room

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Like it or not, the persistent questions about the Titans' lack of moves made to address the needy wide receiver position are going to end unless they find someone or the group they have somehow overachieves.

The latest reaction came from Ryan Tannehill, who did his best to praise each of his guys but also said, "You look who you got in the room and that's who it is."

The quarterback also agreed with the majority, he was surprised there wasn't a draft pick higher than seventh spent on the position.

Podcast on video: Final thoughts before Titans draft

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- There has been so much time -- too much time -- to contemplate what the Titans will do with No. 11 tonight in the first round of the NFL Draft, or if they will move up or back from the spot.

The Paul Kuharsky PodcastAs I sketched out my final thoughts I realized I've been too hard on a couple of prime prospects, using broad context that extends beyond this draft too often. It's important to look at comps and to see things in the framework of recent drafts, sure.

But ultimately, the next three days are obviously about what's available in the next three days and Ran Carthon and Mike Vrabel doing their very best with all the work they and the scouting staff and assistant coaches have done in the build-up to all this.

Here's a video-only edition of The Paul Kuharsky Podcast where I come to some clarity on my own over-reach on the class of 2023.
