NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Titans hired Freddie Walker as director of applied sports science, continuing to build out the analytical side of their training staff.

Walker won’t be in the weight room. He’ll be in the data. GPS tracking, Dexa scans, body composition, model building and the science behind return to play — the measurement side of performance that supports what happens on the field.

Walker comes to Tennessee from the Denver Broncos, where he was assistant director of sports science.

The Titans lost two members of Zac Woodfin’s sports performance staff after the season as Mark Lovat became the Steelers' strength and conditioning coach and Grant Throne joined Pittsburgh as director of performance integration and sports science. Both were previously with Mike McCarthy in Green Bay.

The Titans hired Brent Callaway, who worked at EXOS preparing draft prospects for 17 years, to replace Thorne, and David Paluka to replace Lovat. Paluka was Miami’s director of player performance in 2025.

Calloway was a track athlete at UNC and will tie into the work John Shaw is already doing with speed, in addition to focusing on return to play.

Too much injury blame gets placed on training staffs. Still, the Titans ranked as the sixth most-injured team in 2024 and 21st in 2025, per Rotowire.
