NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans have waived fan favorite underdog receiver Xavier Restrepo, Miami's all time leading receiver and close friend of Cam Ward's, I've confirmed.

Adam Schefter was first.

Restrepo showed an early knack for being at the right place at the right time. But as pads when on and the competition of training camp heated up, it became clear he wasn't breaking through into the pack who will make up the core of the Titans receivers.

He's shown some toughness, ruggedness and reliability, but his lack of NFL-caliber speed was consistently obvious.

He's a slot-only receiver, and Tyler Lockett and Chimere Dike will occupy a great deal of the time there while the offense also rotates others through.

Mason Kinsey and James Proche also plays their best there, and their fates remain unknown.

The Titans are likely to keep six or seven receivers and I think Restrepo, at best, was ninth.

The team will assemble its 16-man practice squad Wednesday and Restrepo could be a member of that if he's not claimed on waivers by another team. But Kinsey, a practice squad fixture unlikely to make the 53, and Proche, who's on the fence,  should rank ahead of him there if they aren't on the roster.
