With two corners in four picks, Titans set up competition and depth

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A second cornerback in the first three rounds for the Titans was a good value find, and Elijah Molden rounds out a completely revamped cornerback group.

“That was one we checked off pretty quickly and said, ‘We're all set with this guy,” Mike Vrabel said. “We asked him about school and he gave such a genuine answer. He said, ‘I don't really love school but I love to learn.’ That really, I think, sunk in.

“He was just intelligent. Talked ball. He knew about our football team. He had prepared for the interview by watching our football team. He spoke highly of how we played and the effort and finish which we play with. …This is going to be a fun guy to coach.”

Titans' third-rounder Monty Rice is here for Rashaan Evans' job

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Monty Rice, meet Rashaan Evans.

Evans, the 23rd pick in the 2018 draft, seems to be nearing the end of his Tennessee tenure. The team should decline his fifth-year option of $9.735 million by the May 3 deadline, which would mean he’d be entering the final year of his rookie deal this fall.georgia rice monty 3

He’s not multi-dimensional and barring an unexpected, dramatic turnaround, the Titans need to find a cheaper replacement who offers more than great goal-line and short-yardage play.

Still, Mike Vrabel said Friday night he’s extremely confident and comfortable with Evans, who’s excited about modifications the Titans are making to his inside linebacker spot.

After Dillon Radunz at 53, a look at the Titans' giant OL resource expenditures under Jon Robinson

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Dillon Radunz may be a terrific offensive lineman for the Titans.

It won’t change the fact that his selection as the 53rd pick in the draft is the result of Jon Robinson chasing like a struggling blackjack player, trying to make up for an awful hand.

Radunz

If the Titans hadn’t wasted the 29th pick in last year’s draft on Isaiah Wilson, who busted his way out of the NFL in remarkable time, Tennessee wouldn’t have been thinking about the position at all. [Unlocked]

Titans' medical team clearance of Caleb Farley keyed team's first-round pick

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The biggest, most important sign-offs on Caleb Farley didn’t come from Jon Robinson and his scouting staff or Mike Vrabel and his coaches.

They came from the four orthopedists among the six physicians on the Titans’ medical staff: Thomas Byrd, Daniel Lamar, Damian Petty and John Zvijac.

My understanding is that teams were only able to send one doctor to Indianapolis for the medical checks that occurred for roughly 150 prospects on the first weekend of April – Jon Robinson wasn’t certain of that Thursday night or didn’t want to share.

But the Titans had earmarked Farley because of their interest in him, and thus got to examine him for themselves rather than be left reliant on a pooled medical report.

By BLAKE BEDDINGFIELD, special correspondent

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- No trades, just a straight mock draft to improve teams for the present and future.

1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson.

  • A Franchise QB for a team is in need of one.
  • Best QB to come out since Andrew Luck.
  • Because of his advanced game, the rebuild will be quicker than normal.
