NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- None of the Titans’ tryout list of 58 rookies were rated as draftable in Dane Brugler’s “The Beast,” and a good share of them weren't even mentioned in the premier draft preview.
That's to be expected from a pool put together after 257 draft picks and undrafted rookie deals around the league filed out 90-man rosters.
A handful of the auditioning defensive backs and linebackers fit the general profile of what the Titans are building -- speed behind a four-man rush -- but this group is more about numbers and competition than defined roles.
Bryce Foster is one clean, stylistic match on offense, a center built on toughness and football intelligence, which lines up directly with what the Titans have said they want inside.
The Titans have a full roster of 90 after cutting six players and signing 11 undrafted rookies on Thursday.
Any tryout player will have to be judged by Titans' coaches and brass as an upgrade, as signing one will have to coincide with a cut.
Draft picks aren't practicing, as the Titans get them time with the strength and conditioning staff.
"I feel like every year, one or two guys kind of shine and they make it to the 90-man roster," Robser Saleh said. "Actually, I told them a story about Benson Mayowa, back when i was in Seattle, he was a tryout guy, it was the only camp tryout that he had. And that was a world championship team, that had one of the best defenses in the history of football. And he not only made the 90 but made the 53 and had a long nine-year career. So you never know."
