NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Corey Davis' great game against the Browns has spurred a lot of conversation.

His excellent season has well-exceeded expectations. That got me thinking about an 8-4 team that's had some questionable performers: Who else has exceeded expectations? Who's met them? And who's performed worse than expected.

So I've gone through the current depth chart adding a player to each unit, so we are three-wide and two-tight on offense and we've got nickel on defense,

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Jaguars are not a good football team sitting with a record of 1-11.

Here is a quick breakdown of the current state of the Jaguars roster.

They lack a quarterback for the future and even a functional starting quarterback for the present.

Gardner Minshew is not the future and it took the Jaguars’ front office a year and half to figure that out.

Veteran quarterback Mike Glennon has a record of 6-18 in his career.

Glennon has outstanding size, arm strength and very good quarterback mechanics, but he is better in a practice setting and workouts than actual gameplay.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – As the Titans dig out from their disastrous’ 41-35 loss to the Browns, Corey Davis is the talk of the team after his excellent performance in the loss.

He pulled in 11 of 12 targets for 182 yards and a touchdown, many of them contested catches where he outmuscled challengers to win passes from Ryan Tannehill.

Much has changed for Davis in his fourth season, the final year of the contract he signed as the fifth pick in the 2017 draft.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Remember jolly with the deep chuckle?

Isaiah Wilson is back from his one-game suspension but it doesn’t put him any closer to actually playing or playing well. He’s got that PAT and three kneel-downs on offense to grow on from the Nov. 29 win at Indianapolis.

Now he’s been passed by veteran Marshall Newhouse and will likely rank as the ninth offensive lineman as the Titans activate eight on a weekly basis.

Maybe Wilson turns into something in 2021, but the miss is as enormous as the man right now – the healthy 29th pick in the draft has not been able to find his way into the line up even as the Titans are on their third left tackle and have used nine offensive linemen this season.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- This game had a Bengals game feel to it from earlier in the year.

The Browns' offense could do no wrong and the Titans struggled to play catch up without their No. 1 option in Derrick Henry, a non-factor once the score was so lopsided.

The Browns had 13 penalties for 92 yards to the Titans' five for 52, and despite the huge difference in the Titans' favor the Browns controlled the clock 36:46 to the Titans' 23:14, converted long third downs when needed and scored at will.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Much as we’d like to sort out of the pile of AFC playoff-caliber teams below the Steelers and Chiefs right now using transitive properties, it doesn’t work.

The Titans just hammered the Colts on the road, but got smashed by the Browns at home, who beat the Colts in Cleveland and, oh yeah, the Colts also beat the Titans in Nashville.

It doesn’t unwind neatly. It doesn’t unwind at all.

With home-field meaning so little, bring on the playoffs already and let’s see it unscrambled for real and find out what these talented but maddeningly inconsistent Titans really are.

And for anyone taking some great solace in the Titans’ second-half “comeback” in Sunday’s brutal 41-35 loss, the final margin amounts to artificial proximity.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans have been on a roll the last two weeks and they can’t stop now.

The Browns need this win and present a different challenge this week.

These two offenses will focus on the run and will force it to establish their identities.

The luxury the Browns have with these two running backs is they are both three-down backs and are interchangeable with the ability to run with power and also have enough run skill to get the edge versus a good defense.
