Dominant Derrick Henry and defense help Titans roll miserable Texans

Dominant Derrick Henry and defense help Titans roll miserable Texans

HOUSTON – Yes.

Yes, the Titans are good enough to go to Houston, hardly throw it with a rookie quarterback and convincingly beat the terrible Texans, 17-10.

Set aside any silly talk that it’s Malik Willis’ time. The rookie’s game was on par with the miserable effort of his counterpart, Davis Mills, but it was rendered irrelevant and unnecessary by Derrick Henry, who went crazy against Houston as is his habit.

For his fourth consecutive game against the Texans, Henry topped 200 yards, this time with 32 carries for 219 yards and two scores.

PK TV: Discussing the Titans' dominant effort in Houston

PK TV: Discussing the Titans' dominant effort in Houston

Screen Shot 2022 10 30 at 8.43.37 PMHOUSTON -- From the Reliant Stadium press box, we gathered to discuss the Titans' dominant effort in their 17-10 win over the Texans that boosted their record to 5-2.

I know a 7-point win doesn't sound dominant. But if you watched you know that it was.

Derrick Henry did what he wanted, the defense didn't get into any trouble until the game was pretty much sealed and Malik Willis' performance in his first NFL start really didn't mean a thing.

There were a variety of other things you also wanted to address about the game so we did a good job digging in.

You can rewatch at our private Facebook page or below.

Scout's Take: The Titans' primary concerns in Houston

Scout's Take: The Titans' primary concerns in Houston

By BLAKE BEDDINGFIELD, special correspondent

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Houston Texans are in Year Two of their rebuild with a second-year GM Nick Caserio.

He is already on his second head coach. Lovie Smith is in his first season as the Texans' head coach but his third as an NFL head coach. He also spent nearly five as a college head coach.

The Texans look to be no closer to the end of the rebuild than they did at the start.

Houston has the 26th-rated offense and 31st-rated defense.

Keys to the Titans' third-down turnaround

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Just two years ago, opponents had better than a coin flip chance of converting a third down against the Titans' defense.

The unit was, frankly, a laughingstock, staying on the field a record 51.9 percent of the time – the worst in the league since at least 1999. And offenses weren’t just getting into third-and-short and turning those into a new set of downs. There were third-and-18s in there.

PK TV: Titans' talk ahead of the trip to Houston

Screen Shot 2022 10 26 at 8.02.24 PMNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans are 5-2 and heading to Houston for a game against the Texans, who are one of the worst teams in the NFL at 1-4-1.

Tennessee and Derrick Henry have a habit of running very well against the Texans.

In his last three games against them, he's run for 211 yards and three touchdowns, 212 yards and two touchdowns and 250 yards and two touchdowns.

Houston currently has the NFL's worst rush defense.

The Titans may need to be super run-reliant. Ryan Tannehill's sprained ankle kept him out of practice Wednesday. Let's gather and discuss all the issues around the team and all your questions at this stage of the season.

Head to the private Facebook page or below to rewatch our conversation about all the big issues heading into Sunday's game.

Mike Herndon: A deep dive into the Titans' Bud Dupree

Mike Herndon: A deep dive into the Titans' Bud Dupree

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- After missing the better part of four games with a hip injury, Titans outside linebacker Bud Dupree made his return and keyed Tennessee’s dominant defensive showing that overpowered the Colts and ushered out the very brief Matt Ryan era in Indianapolis.

Indy’s quarterback was pressured 19 times on Sunday, tied for most among all NFL passers in Week Seven, with Dupree racking up seven total pressures, including a sack and a quarterback hit according to PFF’s charting.

Dupree has often been under fire during his time in Tennessee due to the expectations that come attached to an $82.5-million contract combined with an inability to stay on the field. In 2021, it was a difficult return from the ACL injury that ended his time with the Steelers. This year it’s been the hip issue.
